Abbaye de Reigny

Founded in 1128 by Abbé Étienne de Toucy, under the authority of Saint Bernard, the Abbey of Reigny was placed under the protection of Pope Eugene III in 1147. It was very powerful and prosperous in the Middle Ages and welcomed up to 300 monks and lay people. On the edge of Cure, a former monastic park whose particularity lies in its highly perfected hydraulic system: a system of dikes and canals has been built to allow irrigation. Private park.
In 1493, Charles VIII made it a Royal Foundation. The Hundred Years' War, the Huguenots and the French Revolution overcame the beautiful building, which nevertheless retains some very interesting vestiges of its prestigious past: the exceptional 14th century Cistercian refectory (there are only three examples left in France) with its elegant double-span nave which has retained its period polychromy, the hall and the monks' dormitory refurbished in the 17th century.
From the demolished buildings, we can still guess the bases of the abbey church. Finally, the entire Cistercian hydraulic network has been preserved and the basin of the cloister has just been restored.
