La Fosse Dionne & les coteaux d'Epineuil

A hike between natural heritage and historical treasures! A captivating loop from Tonnerre, between the mysterious Fosse Dionne and the wine-growing hillsides of Épineuil.

1. Opposite the station, go right on Avenue de la Gare. At 50 m, take the Gare alley on the left. At Rue du Pont, turn left and pass under the railway bridge. Continue on Rue Aristide-Briand. Turn right before the bridge, towards the campground. At the height of it, take the footbridge on the left then turn right on the towpath. 2. Cross the canal at the Arcault lock. Go left then right and join the D 952. Follow it to the left for 150 m (caution!). Leave the road and turn right onto a stony path that rises slightly. At the crossroads, follow the path on the right and climb along the vineyards. At the fork, turn right. 3. Facing the small water tower, turn left towards Vaulichères. Cross the D 202 and walk down Rue de l 'Église. At the church, continue straight ahead. Take the stony path on the right at the intersection. Continue straight ahead. Before a secluded house, turn left on a grassy path that enters the woods and slopes gently up to a paved road. Follow it to the left. 4. At the crossroads, turn left towards Petit Virey. After the farm, follow a grassy path to the left until the D 944. Go down it on the left, take the first path on the right, then turn left until you get out of the forest near the vineyards. 5. Go down and take the second path on the right for 400 m. At the crossroads, go down to the left towards the small Molosmes. Enter rue du Clos-de-Quincy leading to a hangar. Exceed it by 250 m. 6. Take the Chemin des Cordeliers on the right, then on the left, the path that goes around the "Leclerc" shopping centre, cross the road, follow it on the right for 80 m, then take the footbridge on the left. Continue on the path on the left along the canal to Alfred-Grévin Avenue which you take on the right, pass under the railway bridge. 7. Continue along Rue Saint-Nicolas. Turn left on rue du Général-Campenon. At the end, on the right, visit the Dionne Pit. Continue along rue de l 'Hôtel-de-Ville, then to the left, along rue de l 'Hôpital until you reach the Hôtel-Dieu. Cross the bridge then turn left to reach the station.
