Sur les pas des Cisterciens

This tour will take you between canal, woods, fields and meadows to discover the typical landscapes of Tonnerrois. Nature and culture lovers will be seduced by this itinerary, which starts from one of the most beautiful Renaissance castles in Burgundy and will take you to the Cistercian Abbey of Quincy.

1. With your back to the town hall, you start on your left by taking the beautiful path planted with plane trees until the next intersection. Turn right. 2. Once over the bridge, you turn right to return to the canal by taking a paved road that descends slightly and joins the towpath. Take and follow the towpath heading left and then pass Tanlay Lock (#90). Continue on to the next lock. 3. When you reach Commissey, leave the towpath, take the bridge and turn left onto Rue du Lavoir. Continue on the D56 then take the first track on your right. You will not leave this track until you enter the village of Saint-Martin-sur-Armançon, which you see very quickly on the horizon. Continue straight on Rue de l 'Eglise, go around the church on the left and then take Rue Haute on the right. Turn left rue de Rugny then right rue de la Porte d 'en Haut. 4. You leave this asphalt street quite quickly to take a grassy path that goes up on the left. You cross straight ahead to take a path that forms a big “S” shortly after. You leave the track to take a paved path on your left then take the stone path on the right to return to the edge of the wood and then the undergrowth. 5. When you reach this intersection, turn left to return to the forest. Continue straight ahead ignoring a track on your right. 6. You reach a ford. Take the walkway on your left. Warning, risk of slipping! Continue straight ahead and take the path to the right along the forest. 7. You arrive on the road to Quincy. Take the road on the right, pass the mill, continue on the road that goes up to the wood and take the path on the left that crosses a field. Opposite Quincy Abbey, take the path on the right. 8. You arrive on the D56, immediately turn right on the path that goes up and continue on your left. Continue along the woods until you reach the road. When you reach the road, turn left. 9. At this level, you leave the track to take a grassy path, slightly uphill, which starts on your left. Go along the field and take a left. Follow the path then, at the intersection, take a left until you reach the D56. 10. Take a right and then a left on the road to Commissey. Turn left to reach Grande rue Basse. At the end of this street, turn right and reach the Town Hall Square.
